When the Hustle Takes Over the Health

How to reset your rhythm (without guilt) when things get off track.

In partnership with

This time last year, I was wrapping up a 12-week transformation programme. I’d been tracking my food, working out consistently, and feeling strong in my body and mind. Fast forward to now... and I’ve made it to the gym exactly once this month.

It’s not because I don’t care. In fact, it’s been on my mind constantly. But between the demands of running a business, needing genuine rest, and navigating a bit of low motivation—I’ve let my workouts slide.

I’m starting to feel the difference too. And not just physically. It’s affecting my energy, focus, and general headspace. So instead of piling on guilt, I’m giving myself a gentle nudge—a bit of a kick up the bum—and choosing a positive reset.

If you've ever felt this too, this one’s for you.

We all know what consistency is supposed to look like—morning routines, nutritious meals, regular workouts. But knowing and doing are two very different things.

Here’s what I’ve come to realise: we don’t need to restart with pressure or punishment. We need to reset with self-awareness and kindness.

Because sometimes, the “I just can’t be bothered” isn’t laziness—it’s exhaustion. The lack of motivation is often our body and brain quietly asking for space. And inconsistency? It’s often a signal—not a shortcoming.

So instead of forcing myself back into 6am gym sessions, I’m doing this instead:

  • Asking what’s realistic for this season, rather than clinging to past routines.

  • Rebuilding with tiny steps, like 15-minute walks or stretching between calls.

  • Blocking out time for myself, with the same dedication I give my clients.

  • Remembering my wellbeing is a business asset, not a luxury.

You can do the same.

As wellness professionals, we’re often the last to get our own attention. But how we lead ourselves is how we lead others. The goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to be present—and energised enough to show up well.

“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, not what’s left of you.”

Kate Reed

Will it work for you?

If your own wellness has quietly slipped off the to-do list whilst you’ve been showing up for everyone else—now’s the time to recalibrate.

Here’s how to reset with grace, not guilt:

  • Check in with yourself. Where are you feeling the impact—physically, mentally or emotionally?

  • Start with one micro-habit. A short walk. A nourishing breakfast. A midday stretch. Build back gradually.

  • Treat your wellness like client work. If it’s not in your diary, it won’t happen. Block it out.

  • Reconnect with your why. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about having the energy to lead and live fully.

  • Say it out loud. Whether it’s to a friend, a coach or your audience—naming your reset helps it stick.

  • Notice how it feels. Let your energy, focus and mood be the real data points.

You don’t need to start from scratch. You’re starting from experience—and that’s powerful. The key is self-compassion backed by a bit of structure.

Just because you’ve fallen out of rhythm, doesn’t mean you can’t find it again. You’re not behind—you’re just ready for your next season.

Here’s to the gentle comeback.
